Project Prayas was a determination to reach more children and bring them into the safe, learning fold of Sugam School. In 3 years Sugam grew from 15 to 100 students in grades Nursery to 5.
Project Udaan is a successful initiative to expand Sugam’s Primary School into a Middle School. Within 3 years, the School enrolled an additional 100 students in grades 6 to 8.

We are an English medium school from Nursery to 12th standard. Sugam’s audience comes from non-English speaking backgrounds.
Introducing English to them from the very beginning of their schooling. Our goal is to develop their English language skills progressively, enabling them to read, write, understand, and speak in socially relevant contexts.
Our school is accredited to NIOS for Grades 3, 10, and 12.
Our children benefit from the opportunity to take exams through NIOS, which is age-flexible and offers a nationally recognized certification across India.
Nurturing curiosity and developing a technological mindset for our children beyond academics is a key goal for our school. Following this objective, we have set up a dedicated Discovery Lab that allows for technological creativity to flow while reinforcing academic concepts.
Since the establishment of the Discovery Lab in 2022, our school has adopted a new approach to using methodological materials in our classes.
The Discovery Lab curriculum for our formal learners (Grades 3 to 10, NIOS) has been designed to start from the basics of mechanics and progressively guide students through the concepts of robotics and programming.
Students begin with fundamental robotic concepts and gradually develop the knowledge and skills necessary to build and program their own robots.
The lab emphasizes hands-on activities and projects, encouraging a passion for exploration and innovation.
In 2024, we expanded the Discovery Lab’s reach by introducing it to Grades 1 to 5 for the first time, building on the previous year’s inclusion of the lab in Grade 4 and above.
Training in singing and instruments is an earnest activity in Sugam.
We train our children in Indian music along with Indian folk music.
We have professionally qualified staff like classical singing teachers.
Our children have performed on important stages in front of live audiences.
One of our objectives is to help our children gain professional expertise in harmonium playing and other instruments taught in the Indian classical tradition.
More than 80–100 children learn harmonium each year.
Our children have passed the 1st year exams set by the renowned Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad. They are now preparing for the 2nd year exams.
Children have registered to take the 1st year exams next year.
The school choir performs on platforms external to the school, such as audition forums and events organized by well-known mainstream schools such as Pathways.
We take pride in our dynamic theatre department, guided by a dedicated full-time professional drama teacher.
Theatre encourages sensitivity, team-building, and learning from peers.
In drama, students develop story ideas based on real-life situations or observations and turn them into scripts and collaborative stories.
Besides performing in significant events such as assemblies and festivals, students regularly interact with renowned theatre professionals for special classes.
At Sugam, we cultivate creativity by involving children in a variety of artistic activities including drawing, painting, and clay.
Our students continually impress us with their exceptional talent and limitless imagination.
Our skilled and dedicated art teacher introduces students to engaging and innovative projects, ensuring that their education is both thrilling and inspiring.
Students produce a diverse array of artwork using materials such as oil pastels, poster paints, clay, ceramic glazes, and acrylic colours.
On festival days and special events, their artistic creations transform the look of our school, showcasing their beautiful and imaginative work.
Although we don’t have a dedicated playground or our own sports space, we remain committed to providing children with the joy of athletic activities.
We seize every opportunity to support and encourage their involvement in sports, ensuring they experience the fun and benefits of physical play.
We are fortunate to be supported by Pathways School, who share their grounds with Sugam children for sports activities.
An education project on democracy for Sugam NGO Student Council electoral process
As an NGO school, we challenge the stereotype that our students only require basic education.
Aligned with our vision to develop critical thinking, we empower students to engage in social, cultural, creative, and ethical decision-making.
Through this, we introduced a real-world simulation of government elections for leadership development.
About 120 students from Grades 5 to 12 participated in three weeks of intensive training conducted by experienced mentors.
The sessions covered democratic principles, electoral processes, campaign design, and more.
Every student from 5th grade onwards was involved as candidates, campaigners, volunteers, or election officials.
The project culminated in the election of school leaders based on democratic voting, followed by an oath-taking ceremony presided over by the Founder and President of our school, Ms. Monika Sharma.

Health and Nutrition are important pillars of our promise to the children and their families. The school is providing one full nutritious and balanced meal a day for FREE. This not only keeps the children coming to school but also ensures their proper physical development. A wholesome hygienic meal works as a tonic for these kids who are mostly eating whatever is cost effective and readily available. Most of them have both parents working so proper meals are not a priority for these families. There is a fully equipped kitchen at the school where food for 500+ students is made fresh with the right ingredients and expert guidance.
Health checkups are also a regular feature at the school. Once a year all kids and their immediate families go through a full body checkup. A set of trained doctors map their physical parameters like vision, hearing, dental hygiene and basic blood parameters.
Emotional and mental stability is a basic requirement for a healthy childhood and given the backgrounds and exposures these children have, this is a very weak and vulnerable area to work on. At Sugam we understand and respect this need in children. Through a mindfulness program we help the children connect with themselves and come to terms with the array of emotions they face and feel but are unable to express. A mindfulness coach works with children across different classes with a set age appropriate program that engages them through lots of hands on activities and guided meditations.
