Sugam began in 2011, in the narrow lanes of Moti Vihar, Gurugram; home to thousands of migrant workers and children growing up without safety, guidance, or opportunity. Our founder, Monika Sharma, saw children scavenging from various shop’s waste, wandering streets, or drifting into harmful activities. Most received only one-day charity; biscuits, blankets, books but nothing that truly changed their lives.
Monika realised: Charity lasts a day. Education lasts a lifetime.
So she started with three children under a tree, a blackboard, and a promise to show up every day.
Three became eleven.
Eleven became twenty-five.
Twenty-five became fifty.
To bring consistency, she created routines, clean clothes, meals, safe play, joyful learning, craft work that earned dignity, and a space where parents felt their children, especially girls, were safe.
The tree could no longer hold their growing dreams.
Sugam moved from a tree to a room, to two rooms, and kept expanding as more children found stability, hope, and a future.
Today, that humble beginning has grown into the Sugam Learning Centre, serving 500+ first-generation learners from Nursery to Grade XII.
Sugam stands on one powerful belief Monika still carries:
Children don’t need one-day help—they need someone who shows up every day.
Today, Sugam has transformed into a vibrant educational institution that caters to the needs of over 520 students. Our core offerings include:

Sugam began its journey with a small group of 15 students.
Project Prayas was a determination to reach more children and bring them into the safe, learning fold of Sugam School. In 3 years Sugam grew from 15 to 100 students in grades Nursery to 5.
Project Udaan is a special initiative to expand Sugam’s Primary School into a middle school. Within 3 years, the school enrolled an additional 100 students in grades 6 to 8.
In the following 3 years, Sugam School saw a surge in student enrollment and grew to a strength of 315, opening up the possibility of expanding to senior school — Grades 9 and 10.
Sugam achieved 100% success in grade 10 NIOS examinations, marking a major milestone in its journey and ushering in the final stage of its transition from a secondary to senior secondary level.
With our students entering grade 11, Sugam turned its attention to the next challenge: ensuring that students do not succumb to the pressure to earn. To gain the fruits of schooling, students should not terminate their education after leaving school without acquiring professional skills or qualifications.
Project Swavalamban was put into action to mentor students and counsel parents, and empower students with information and prospects for their interests and capabilities — and handhold them for another 3 years after completing senior secondary to enter tertiary education.
